Saul Lionheart
A battle scarred, ruthless and deeply revered monarch that lost everything after being transported to Ileosa, being left to scramble for some semblence of control, respect and dignity in a completely unfamiliar environment with people to whom his name means nothing.
Background
Saul comes from the great Lionheart dynasty- a bloodline of monarchs whose men dawned headfuls of lion-like golden manes and were held in a position between god and the people in importance. Tensions among Saul's siblings for the throne were present since an early age, leading to many tragedies. Saul, out of all of them, seemed the least cut out for such a position and yet stumbled backwards into it anyway.
Personality / behaviour
Saul, most prominantly, is a control freak. He strives to maintain a firm structure in his life, his dynamics with others and his environment. If that structure is crossed Saul can stoop low and act out in petty ways. As it is normalized among visfarians and the Lionhearts, Saul is prone to being full of himself and tooting his own horn, flaunting his bloodline and former status and believing he is somehow above aging and mortality. After ending up in Ileosa, Saul feels inclined to remind others of how important he is. Delusion had become a right of passage among the Lionhearts and Saul in his not-so-young age has already become symptomatic of it. But this breed of crazyness thrives most when unchallenged and rewarded, and Saul repeatedly is made to buckle underneath numerious different weights and his own feelings of insecurity, the deep rooted belief that he could not hold a candle to previous kings, especially considering he wasn't the most prepared nor willing to sit down at the throne. Saul can come off as prissy, being achingly delicate and emotionally invested in his health, appearance and youthfulness.
Despite being prone to making unideal decisions, Saul is deeply invested in the preservation of his kingdom and is utterly devoted to his people. He takes his role as leader incredibly seriously. Whether he is a king or just the head of a ragtag group of destitutes- Saul has a high sense of responsibility for those under his wing and an obligation to protect them and to provide. In times of crisis he is the first to step up and slips himself into de facto leadership positions and always wants what's for the best, even if his neuroses can cloud his judgement now and then. Although he can feel too entitled to respect, he does the most to earn it.
