There is a well in the desert. It is the only well the functions exclusively as a portal to the Scape.
The scape and especially the part of the scape that is accessible through the well holds a dark evil being of great power that spawned after someone dropped a child down that well on purpose and the deep anger and resentment that child felt kept him alive for thousands of years and allowed him to not just be consumed by the scape but to yield its powers.
This being cannot really enter ileosa it is still trapped in the scape. But it does create the snakes. These are very simplistic tar black snakes that are two dimensional in appearance and have a human looking eye. The snakes are this being's vengeful gift onto ileosans. The snakes do not need food or water and they can travel large distances.
These snakes will then find some ileosan and talk them into embracing their darker impulses and negative thoughts. Manipulating them. Guiding them into evil and eventual self destruction, wrapping around them and merging with that person to always whisper in their ear. Once they wrap around, they look like tattoos, they slither across the skin to hide and the snake is frequentely able to cover 1 or both of it's victims eyes with it's own body, covering their eye with it's own.
Their purpose is to instill more suffering among ileosan's and feed them to the being within the scape. Once the victim is fully consumed with hatred and evil that they have nothing holding them back anymore, the snake bites them and their venom is basically the person’s ruin. They succumb to the venom, the snake’s control and die, their souls being sent to the scape and becoming food for the being. The snakes also only seek out Ileosans, not humans, yet because they are snakes, therefore stupid, they are not exempt from making mistakes and overall lapses in judgement.
The scape snakes' venom is pure magic, along with the rest of the scape snakes' insides as they are creatures created solely out of magic within the scape. This means that if they bite you, you will die from magic poisoning/overdose. This is also means that if you cut a scape snake in half, a liquid, only comparable in appearance to car oil in a puddle, will spill out
The snakes appear on and off for small plot episodes for the SAP to deal with as a surprising amount of corruption and evil in Ileosa stems from snake wrapped ileosans. Which creates a lot of obstacles.
